Clotheslines & BIOGRAPHY

About the new Clothesline Series ~

Clotheslines have forever captured my imagination. I have photographed them for years, especially when I travelled now, inspired by images women the world over have shared with me.

How does something so simple evoke such rich emotion? I love the poetry of a laundry line. Each combination of fabrics pegged tight to a line - billowing in the wind or calmly hanging in sunshine - is a kind of haiku that whispers a story about the dwellers nearby.

Parlee Noonan was born and raised in Southern California, but spent 40 years of professional life in Atlanta – as a photo stylist, set designer, studio manager, and finally serving national and regional clients as head of her own food photography studio. She also taught photography for ten years in Portfolio Center’s post-grad program.

Now that she has settled in Greensboro, North Carolina, Parlee's artistic work - using acrylic, pencil and inks - has expanded well beyond her "Good Dog. Fine Art." portrait line (for which she has painted 350 commissions since its beginning in 2008). Parlee's new explorations include botanicals on paper (inspired by foraging for mushrooms during the pandemic); a variety of calligraphy-centered projects; bird-centric, nestled treetop worlds, color-washed onto absorbent plaster grounds; and now, these washday worlds.
